The California Adventure

Skipper a sailboat on a mountain lake, paddle your raft down a wild rapid, grab eight friends and see if you can reach your arms around a giant redwood. The California Adventure mixes a great variety of activities with California's diverse scenery. Visit the sandy beaches of the Pacific and the rugged, snow-capped mountains inland.

Every single student from the California Adventure in 2007 returned for an Adventure Treks trip in 2008! However, don't worry about being the only new student on your trip.  Every Adventure is a mix of new and returning students, and Adventure Treks creates amazing communities without cliques.

Backpack in the Eddy Mountains

The amazing view from Black Butte, with Mt. Shasta towering over the landscape, sets the stage for the great scenery in which you will be immersed. Spend the next three days camping beside alpine lakes and hiking along the Pacific Crest Trail. You have the option to summit 9,025’ Mt. Eddy for more spectacular views.

Rock Climb

We set up a variety of routes in the cliffs near Mt. Shasta so everyone, from beginner to advanced, can choose their level of challenge. We will teach you everything you need to know and cheer you on along the way! Cool off with a jump into the crystal clear river near the climb site.

Mountain Bike

Choose gentle single-track paths around a lake to a picnic lunch and swim or long up hills with thrilling downhills. Either way, your biking day is a lot of fun!

Sail on Klamath Lake

Enjoy three days on this remote, scenic and breezy lake where, we will teach you everything you need to know to sail a 24 ft. Catalina sloop. We eat and sleep aboard the boats as we explore the largest lake west of the Rockies where snow covered peaks tower above the clear water.

Whitewater Raft on the Middle Klamath River

You will never forget three days on the whitewater of the Middle Klamath. Paddle inflatable kayaks or rafts during the day, and sleep under billions of stars on a sandy beach at night. Hike up a side stream to twin waterfalls with a swimming hole and jumping rock.

Backpack on the Beach

The Lost Coast is simply magical! Backpack for four days with the ocean on one side, the spectacular King Range Mountains on the other, and sand under your feet. Explore an old lighthouse, see marine life and build a fort on the beach as this great adventure comes to a close much too quickly. We will also hike among famous California Redwoods to complete the California experience!

FAQ’s About this Trip

Is this the best trip for me?

This Adventure is a great introduction for 13-15 year olds who want to experience a variety of outdoor activities, learn new outdoor skills, get to know a great new group of friends and be part of a tight-knit community.

In 2008, every single student from the 2007 California Adventure returned for a second Adventure Treks trip!  this year, the 2009 California Adventure already has a 90% return rate!

What other trips might be right for me?

What if I've never flown across country before?

Most of the students on the California Adventure are first-time travelers.  Learn more about our airport days on our What to Expect Page.  You can also fly as an "Unaccompanied Minor" and the airline will help you navigate the airports.

Will I be the only new student on the trip?

Our Adventure and Experience trips are mostly new students, and 90% of our students don't know anyone when they arrive.  You'll be surprised how quickly you make friends at Adventure Treks.  By the end of the first day, students often say they feel like one  big family.
