Instructor

Caitlyn hails from Hilton Head, SC, but currently calls Arizona home, where she works as a special education teacher at a middle school. Previously, she was a camp counselor and director in the Carolinas in summer while she worked as a guidance counselor and math teacher during the school year. She’s also been a math and reading intervention specialist, advisor in Teach for America, and geometry instructor. She spent 10 months backpacking around the world, visting 25 countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

  • Education: Arizona State University; master’s degree in special education, bachelor’s degree in psychology
  • Certifications: Wilderness first responder
  • Favorite outdoor memory: Hiking to the summit of Mt. Batur, a volcano in Bali, and watching the sunrise with my best friend!
  • Favorite outdoor achievement: Completing a thru hike of the Enchantments in Washington in one day with a friend! We hiked for 21 hours straight to cover 25 miles with 5,000 feet in elevation gain.
  • Favorite place you’ve traveled: Morocco! I spent 10 days exploring various cities, riding a camel through the Sahara Desert, embracing the culture, and meeting locals.
  • Favorite hobbies: Since I moved to Arizona, I spend my time researching new places to discover and adventuring, hiking, camping, and backpacking on the weekends.
  • What are you most excited for this summer? Getting to know the students and overcoming challenges together! I can’t wait to play games, explore new places, and watch students discover that they can accomplish so much more than they realized!
