Ethan

Instructor

Originally from southeast Michigan, Ethan most recently called the San Bernadino Mountains of Califronia home, where he worked as an outdoor instructor at the Pali Institute. He’s also worked as an exercise specialist, leading group classes and working with healthcare providers to implement workout routes for clients and patients. Before that, he was a trip coordinator at Michigan State University, leading students on hiking and climbing trips to the Red River Gorge and Big Bend National Park.

  • Education: Michigan State University, bachelor’s degree in kinesiology
  • Certifications: Wilderness first responder
  • Favorite outdoor memory: I just hiked Angel’s Landing with my parents. My mom was super nervous about it, but she took it on and absolutely crushed it. It was a super special moment with them, and the amazing views were the cherry on top.
  • Favorite outdoor achievement: I’ve talked many students through ropes course elements at Pali as a ropes lead. Working them through the leap of faith is one of the most rewarding things in my job here. I also caught the most amazing sunset of my life in Red River Gorge, KY, this past fall. It had crazy purples and oranges, fog rolling through the hills, and a double rainbow stretching over the gorge. Never gonna be outdone.
  • Favorite place you’ve traveled: Red River Gorge in Kentucky is still my favorite place I’ve ever been. I have so many amazing memories with so many of my friends. Absolutely stunning area with some of the best climbing in the world.
  • Favorite hobbies: I love anything that gets me moving! Climbing, weight lifting, hiking, and yoga are some of my favorites. I recently built a camper in the back of my truck and lived in that for a month.
  • What are you most excited for this summer? I’m looking forward to getting to hang with all the amazing staff and students again in some pretty incredible places.
