Katie

Instructor

Originally from Indiana, Katie now calls New Hampshire home. At Dartmouth, she was a trip leader and safety lead for multi-day backpacking trips for freshmen; she then helped lead a 54-mile hiking event for students and sat on the outing club’s student risk management committee. She’s also worked as a swim coach for kids ages 5–16 and is an EMT in Hanover.

  • Education: Dartmouth College, bachelor’s degree in anthropology and biology; next year will begin graduate school at Dartmouth
  • Certifications: Emergency medical technician
  • Favorite outdoor memory: Waking up to the sunrise and sound of the tide at Vaughn Island in Maine! When the tide goes out at night, you can walk across to the island, set up camp, then wake up on island with one of the first glimpses of sunrise in the country :).
  • Favorite outdoor achievement: One of my favorite outdoor achievements was completing the Zion Traverse through Zion National Park in December last year. Winter backpacking in the desert has its own set of challenges, but it was as beautiful and rewarding as it was challenging!
  • Favorite place you’ve traveled: Fjordlands National Park in the South Island of New Zealand!
  • Favorite hobbies: I love anything on trails, whether that is hiking, backpacking, trail running, gravel biking, or just taking my dog for a walk! I also love swimming, cooking, knitting, and curling up with a good book in a hammock. I’m passionate about wilderness risk management and medicine, and I love that the outdoors pushes us to always be learning!
  • What are you excited about this summer? I am most looking forward to creating long-lasting friendships with staff and students and creating the most amazing, memorable summer ever!
